Harry Potter. Star Trek. Sliders. Outlander. Buffy. Etiquette and Espionage. Pride and Prejudice and Zombies... If the world was ending and you could escape to a fantasy realm based on our reality, which would you flee to?

There are lots of things to consider, like how you would navigate a world full of Hell Mouths...

In this episode we explore these different universes and what makes them twisted realities. We also talk about a few books we've read recently and side track into a short discussion about Minecraft.

New Anomaly Series: Jen and Archaeologist Jenny McNiven discuss the historical accuracies that inspired our favorite sci-fi and fantasy books, movies and TV shows. Our first edition in this new series is about the standing stones in "Outlander". Outlander is a British-American television drama series based on the historical time travel "Outlander" series of novels by Diana Gabaldon. These megalithic structures not only dot the British Isles, but are found all over the world. They also talked stone circles, Stone Henge and Jenny's Scottish ancestry, which she can trace back to the 18th century Inverness.

This is the last Anomaly episode of 2014; a lost recording made at the Anomaly booth with Jen, Angela, Rico and Noah. We have more lost episodes to share next year: panels, booth chats and interviews. Look for those to be sprinkled into our feed, one by one, next year. Anomaly's next episode, the first of 2015, will be on role playing raid groups and how they relate to our real-life dynamics. Find out what roles Jen and Angela play in their circle of friends and hear funny stories that back up their positions. Coming January 1, 2015.

Visit the show notes to this episode, for links to previous convention reports, links to the conventions mentioned and photos. Thank you for listening! Have a happy and save New Year!

In this episode of Anomaly Supplemental, KC and Sue do their best to cover a somewhat loaded topic. What's a "Mary Sue"? What's a "Strong Female Character"? Can the same character be both, or are they mutually exclusive? We talk about where the concept of "Mary Sue" in fan fiction, what is has morphed into, and some characters that are generally considered to be Mary Sues. But we also talk about what we feel makes a good, strong, well-developed character, and what "strong" really means in that sense. And of course, some of our favorite personal examples.  The episode carries an "explicit" tag for a little bit of profanity in some quotes.  Please see our show notes at AnomalyPodcast.com for links to articles and other podcast episodes that we mention throughout.

Anomaly of Futurma: Love's Labours Lost in Space

In this edition of Anomaly, Jen and Angela discuss "Love's Labours Lost in Space" from Futurama's first season. The hosts talk about their favorite moements in the episode, favorite quotes and recall uncomfortable situations where, in true Zapp fashion, men who thought they were "God's gift to women" turned everything they said into sexual innuendos. Good times...

It's a casual, meandering chat that is lighthearted and fun...until their children crash the party at the end, causing a containment breach.

Anomaly is more than a podcast, it's a conversation between friends. And, as a listener of said conversation, we consider you one of us! Anomaly of Firefly: Jaynestown

In this edition of Anomaly, Jen and Angela talk about Firefly: Jayne's Town--the episode where Jayne gets a song, a mud statue and a town of adoring followers. Included in this installment are episode clips, the song: "It's Good to Have Jayne on Your side", sung by Marian Call and Sue's DragonCon panel schedule (if you're going, stop by and say "hi"). Please send your feedback to girlygeekz@gmail.com. Visit Anomalypodcast.com for this episode's shownotes. There you'll you can find a link to Marian Call's web site and the song played, links to the podcasts we promte in this episode, a link to Sue's DragonCon schedule, subscription information, social media and blog links our newsletter and much more.
